speaking of david's treats--made it out to Chelsea for Dave Choe's gallery opening on Saturday night:
Cliques of the self-proclaimed hip buzzing around with cans of cheap beer in hand vultured from the depths of ice melting in trash bins in a dark, dank corner like a watering hole fully staked out by lustful men eyeing the colorful and chatty as they hop on in from the party next door, air kissing this way and that as they make the rounds and gasp about the funny tags and wall decor.
Show opening, or frat party? The similarities are a bit disconcerting.
But whatever, it was a good time...great looking art and people, free beer, chill time/advice session with the artist. It was interesting to see his stuff after having seen him work over the summer, being able to visualize his process as he layered the canvas with the colorful landscape of his crazed mind. Big fan of the fine detailing in various inks on top of areas of color, and portraits of girls displaying their raw sexuality in hilarious compositions.
He told me he wouldn't recommend his lifestyle choice to anyone, that people don't realize how tough it was to get there, how long he had to struggle and suffer. But the key is not to stress out too much about anything, things will happen as they will.
When he said that, I wondered where all my optimism had disappeared to. Probably hanging out with my hearing...hope they both come back soon.
