i've been listening to podcasts lately, specifically NPR Fresh Air and The Sound of Young America. listening to interesting people enthuses, it's great. you should try it.

you can subscribe to both for free on Itunes. the latest feature interviews with Ricky Gervais and Patton Oswalt (comedian, voice of Remy from Ratatouille), respectively: both hilarious and probably inspiring for those seeking creative careers. that's right, do what you love because you love it!

almost made it

not quite free to go back to individual dkmon yet, but nonetheless...Happy Independence Day!

A few weeks ago, my brother requested a frog that could serve as an identity for Brink Magazine, a new online literary mag whose website is being redesigned by his company Barrel. He asked for a "Wind in the Willows kind of look", which I think applies here much more than in the final version I did for Brink. Judging by the reappearances of frog-like dkmon in the past few posts, it appears that my hand is still working the problem out. Maybe this one is it!

scanner darkly

So far this year I've been doing most of my drawing using the tablet, mostly because all occasions to draw have involved getting the image onto the computer at some point, and a stylus simply cuts out the extra scanning step. I didn't realize how unaccustomed I've become to drawing with regular pen-to-paper until an attempt to sketch a self-portrait resulted in a disturbingly disproportionate face, which garnered a laughing comparison to that of my brother...and from my own mother!
Fortunately, I finally have a scanner to use at my leisure, so I'll be able to clean up my non-virtual drawing skills while continuing work on the dkmon collection. With the exception of the first one, this set was drawn using a Precise V7 Rolling Ball Fine Pilot pen.
Actually, I'll start labeling each post with the medium used...once I'm caught up and back to uploading one dkmon a day, that is.
